Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is special about the Captiva PHEV?
The Captiva PHEV offers the flexibility of an electric drive with the added reassurance of a petrol engine for longer distances, giving you the best of both worlds. Drive it. Love it. Own it.
2. What is a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)?
A Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery. You can charge the battery by plugging it in or while driving. This allows the vehicle to drive on electricity for shorter trips and switch to petrol power when needed, delivering greater efficiency and flexibility.
3. What is the difference between a hybrid (HEV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV)?
Both HEVs and PHEVs use a petrol engine and an electric motor
HEV: Cannot be plugged in.
The battery charges automatically while driving and through regenerative braking. Electric-only driving is limited to short distances.
PHEV: Has a larger battery that can be plugged in and charged. This allows significantly longer electric-only driving (up to around 90 km), helping reduce fuel consumption. Thereby making it more affordable.
4. What safety features is the Captiva PHEV equipped with?
Your safety is our top priority. The Captiva PHEV is packed with essential features like front and side airbags, cruise control, LED headlamps, Daytime Running Lights, rearview camera with sensors, and more.
The Premier trim takes it up a notch with smart safety tech like Adaptive Cruise Control and Intelligent Driving Assist — all working together to help keep you and your loved ones protected. Sun, city, or desert — feel the hybrid energy on a test drive today!
5. What is Intelligent Driving Assist?
The Intelligent Driving Assistance (IDA) is your co-pilot for smoother, smarter driving. It helps keep your Captiva PHEV centered in its lane and automatically adjusts your speed in traffic — perfect for long drives or stop-and-go commutes. It even has Cruise Control on Curves to keep your ride safe and steady. As a bonus? It promotes smoother driving habits, which can help boost your battery range. Try it for yourself today.
6. What is regenerative braking?
Regenerative braking helps recharge your battery every time you slow down. The system is smart enough to convert the braking into electricity and sends it back to the battery. How clever?! You can choose from these three levels of regenerative braking:
Strong: maximizes energy recovery — ideal for One-Pedal Driving.
Normal: offers a balanced, comfortable feel with efficient, energy recovery.
Weak: feels like traditional braking with minimal slowing down.
Plug into the future & test drive it today!
7. Does the Captiva PHEV have OnStar®️ Connectivity?
Not at launch. Should this change in the future, updates will be shared through official channels. For the latest information, please contact your nearest Chevrolet dealership.
8. Can the Captiva PHEV handle long road trips in the Middle East?
Road-trip loading? Yes, the Captiva PHEV is especially suited for long-distance travel, offering a combined driving range of 1000+ km with the flexibility of topping up on petrol when needed.
9. What engine and battery does the Captiva PHEV have?
The Captiva PHEV combines a 1.5L petrol engine, a single electric motor, and a 20.5 kWh battery, delivering a total output of over 201 horsepower. The Captiva PHEV has a top speed of approximately 170 km/h, offering smooth acceleration and confident performance for daily driving and highway travel.
10. What happens if the battery charge is low?
Even with a low battery, the Captiva PHEV continues driving using the petrol engine and hybrid system. The vehicle automatically manages energy between the engine and motor to maintain performance. So you have twice the peace of mind.
11. What driving modes are available in the Captiva PHEV?
The Captiva PHEV offers three powertrain modes:
- EV Mode: pure electric driving
- EV Max Mode: prioritizes electric driving for longer distances
- HEV Mode: automatically balances electric and petrol power for efficiency
- It also includes four drive styles: ECO, ECO+, STANDARD, and SPORT, for you to charge ahead of the crowds.
12. Do driving modes affect fuel efficiency or range?
Yes. ECO and ECO+ modes prioritize efficiency and help to extend range, while SPORT mode focuses on performance and may reduce efficiency slightly.
13. What is HEV mode?
In HEV mode, the Captiva PHEV automatically switches between the electric motor and petrol engine depending on driving conditions to deliver the best balance of performance and efficiency.
14. What is Forced Power Retention?
Forced Power Retention allows the petrol engine to maintain or recharge the battery while driving. This helps preserve electric power for later Perhaps when entering a city or urban area.
15. How do you charge the Captiva PHEV?
The Captiva PHEV can be charged using:
- Level 1 charging (standard home socket)
- Level 2 charging (home wallbox)
- DC fast charging (up to 24 kW) for quicker top-ups at public stations.
